The
Devonport Cub Pack is run by a team of warranted leaders who
have undergone training with Scouting NZ, with the assistance
of Programme Activity Leaders and parent help. We run an active
and diverse program and do bike trips, mini-hikes, local history
walks, visits to Fire Stations and Rescue Helicopters; campcraft,
cooking, orienteering and compass work, knots, pitching and
striking tents; creative pursuits, lots and lots of fun games
- as well as emphasising the fundamentals of Cub Scouting:
Cubs
do their best
think of others
and do a good turn everyday
Boys
love rules and rituals and we start our meetings formally with
a Grand Howl and a Flag Break. The boys are required to wear
the cub scout uniform and at investiture are given a Scarf and
Woggle to show that they belong to the 1st Devonport Pack. You
can buy the cub uniform and other scouting items online at Scouting
Direct, the Scout Shop. New Cubs need to get a Cub Shirt,
a Badge Fleece and the Cub Award Scheme Book.
We place a lot of emphasis on the boys acquiring skills through
the completion of Personal Interest
badges. all of which enhance a sense of respect and self-discipline
and enhance their self-esteem. We participate in the annual
Devonport Santa Parade and take part in the Devonport ANZAC
Day Service and do several community service activities throughout
the year. We also take the Cubs to stay at our Bach on Rangitoto
Island, a highlight for many of our experienced Cub Scouts.
