Welcome to the 1st Devonport Scout Group

The 1st Devonport Scout Group was founded in 1908 and is one of the oldest Scout Groups in New Zealand. At first, the troop met in a shed in the garden of a house in Mozeley Avenue. In 1923, under the leadership of AE Knowles, the troop built 'Scoutsville', the Bach on Rangitoto Island which the group still owns today. From 1928-1939, the troop was based in the Bunker at the top of Mt Victoria (now used by the Devonport Folk Music Club), and after the Second World War moved to The Den in Allenby Avenue in 1946 - and have been there ever since. The Devonport Scout group has been serving the Devonport Community for over 100 years.

Having nearly closed completely at the end of 2008, the 1st Devonport Scout Group is now in a growth cycle. Our Kea Club for 6-8 yr olds meets on Mondays 4-5pm. We have two Cub Packs - the Victoria Pack, who meet on Mondays 5.30-7pm, and the Flagstaff Pack, who meet on Wednesdays 5.30-7pm. The Scout Troop meets on Thursdays from 6.30-8.30pm and we will be starting a Venturer Unit in August 2011. The Devonport Rover Crew restarted in February 2011. We now have around 75 youth members in the group with currently a 1yr+ waiting list for Keas and Cubs.

Our Scout Den in Allenby Avenue is also available for hire, for children' s parties and other such social events and is also available for use by community groups, eg: yoga, meditation, zumba, dance etc. Click here for further information on Den Hire.
