The
Devonport Keas is run by a team of warranted leaders and follow
the Nationally devised syllabus for Kea Scouts. Keas provides
an introduction to the kinds of things that Cubs and Scouts
do - such as campcraft and putting up tents - but there is also
great emphasis on creative and artistic pursuits as well as
lots and lots of fun games. Our meetings are on Monday nights
4-5pm during school term.
The
Kea spirit is best summed up by the Kea Motto and the Kea Promise:
 |
I
share, I care, I discover, I grow
I
will try to share my fun
and help others
|
Keas is designed for young boys and girls of 6-8 years of age
and we usually start the meeting with our Kea Parade, the Kea
Song and stomping the Kea Yell. Most meetings are a mix of games,
songs, storytelling, arts & crafts work and physical activities.
There are a number of Personal Interest
badges Keas can work towards, in addition to the badges
of the three stages of the Kea Award Scheme. The uniform is
less formal and we just wear a white t-shirt with the group
scarf - though Keas will need to get a fleece for their badges
to be sewn upon. You can buy the fleece and other scouting items
online at the Scout Shop, Scouting Direct.
