13 - 25 August 2011
Opening in Outerspace Gallery on: Saturday 13 August, 3 - 4.30pm
The works in this exhibition explore aspects of relationships,

Paul
Chapman: New Work
19 - 30 August 2011
Opening on: Thursday 18 August at 5.30 - 7pm
Opening hours:
Tuesday - Friday 11.00am - 5.30pm
Saturday 11 -4pm
This
exhibition explores mark-marking through the aesthetic of a 'misprint.'
Paul's finished art works are made into rubber stamps and become
a vehicle for block printing. To some extent the work is controlled
by the size of the stamps - they can be no larger that 8 x 10cm,
and by the inks used on rubber for simple block printing. "Through
intentional overprinting, these works exhibit a controlled use
of chance. I have forsaken a tight thematic exhibition for one
that has a sense of 'play'. Regardless of whether the subject
matter is figurative or abstract, most have a notion of 'error'
as their initial premise. The figurative works directly reference
some of my past printmaking exhibitions, their contents are as
clear as each title. The abstract works are free from such defining
titles and venture towards exploring layering within the print".

Tales From Tibet
20 August - 1 September 2011
Trade Aid Tibetan Carpets
Opening in the Main Gallery on : Saturday 20 August, 3 - 4.30pm
Illustrated
with exquisite hand-knotted threads, these carpets feature the
traditional symbols and mythology of Tibetan refugee weavers.
"In an industry notorious for child labour and low wages,
Tales from Tibet is your chance to purchase an original hand woven
carpet, guaranteed exploitation-free" says Vi Cottrell co
-founder of Trade Aid. "A medium sized carpet provides work
for one weaver for a month and an income sufficient to support
the family". The carpets are truly pieces of art and they
will be shown in Auckland exclusively at The Depot. At the opening
of the exhibition, Vi will talk of her experience with Tibetan
culture and the production of Tibetan products.
Teri
Parat: New Paintings
27 August - 8 September 2011
Opening in Outerspace Gallery on: Saturday 27 August, 3 -4.30pm
Teri Parat's quirky, imaginative and detailed portraits reflect
an interest in the surreal. In one painting a fresh-faced nun
peers out from the canvas while in another we see an elongated
and pearl swathed figure, reminiscent of an image from a masquerade.
